Dr. Florian Hoffmeier

Is an artist, medical doctor and mental health expert with 10+ years of work experience in the field of psychiatry, therapy, psychological crisis management and conflict mediation.

​

He also works as cultural activist and has been involved in a variety of social initiatives and projects internationally. 

​

He is author of the non-fiction book "Towards Consensus- Philosophical and Psychological Foundations for Empathy and Constructive Communication" (publication forthcoming) which promotes an innovative stance towards  interhuman dialogue, conflict resolution and the deeper aspects of human interactions. 

​

He has created and directed several experimental dance- and theatre pieces and his short film debut AFUERA has received recognitions, such as being awarded Best Experimental Short at the Berlin Short Film Festival 2023.

Vita:

Growing up in a community in Berlin Schöneberg surrounded by a family and friends of peace activists he came in contact with ideas of intercultural dialogue from an early age on. After studying medicine in Germany, Portugal, and Brazil, he completed a doctorate in the field of occupational, social, and environmental medicine at Goethe University, Frankfurt. Following two years of clinical research, he has worked in clinical psychiatry since  2016 at several university hospitals. He completed  trainings in different therapy forms and with a focus on psychology, systemic thinking, conflict resolution and  family dynamics.

He also underwent training in arts, starting with an early singing education and stage appearances in the opera as a young boy, and, followingly, 15 years of training & masterclasses in dance, Capoeira and experimental theatre, including own stage appearances and also a directing internship at the well known Schauspielhaus Hamburg.   

 

He was a board member of the Gandhi-Serve Foundation (2016-19), which brought him in contact with Eastern Philosophy and Meditation, including several longer stays and study trips to India, Southeast Asia, and South America and he collaborated with the Centre for Arts and Sciences GEN in Montevideo, Uruguay from 2019-2023. ​

For his cultural and artistic engagement he received several grants and awards, such as the Audience Award at the Podewil - Interventions Festival for Young Art Berlin, a 2 years cultural grant from the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and Youth, as well as scholarships and artistic grants from the DAAD, the International Office of the University of Rostock, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe, the Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation and he holds a Honorary citizenship of the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He loves learning languages and is a passionate diver who loves to travel the world's coasts and islands - always keen on exploring the underwater world. ​​
